Release date: June 19, 2019

The last update before the official release of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite added a cool new feature to the game. Greenhouses now have a social component that allow everyone who contributes to collect Potion ingredients.

What is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is an augmented reality game made by Niantic, the creators of Pokémon Go. In it, you play a fledgling wizard tasked with keeping the magic hidden from the eyes of muggles. As a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, you must find and return characters from the Wizarding World.

When did it come out?

After a short beta period in New Zealand and Australia, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite officially came out in the United States and the United Kingdom on June 21, 2019, although some regions could access the game early.

When will be available in my country?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unit is currently available in New Zealand, Australia, the U.S., the U.K., Austria, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Niantic has stated that the game will roll out to more countries over time, so stay tuned to find out when it will come out in your country.

What do you do in it?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is all about finding and freeing Foundables around the world. Similar to other augmented reality games like Pokémon Go, you will need to walk around outside to make the most of your time with the game. You can even battle dangerous creatures alone or with friends in Fortresses found around the world.

Is it free-to-play?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a free-to-play game. There are options to buy cosmetics and other items using a premium currency, which can be acquired through an in-app purchase.

Can I choose my house?

You can choose between any of the four houses in the Harry Potter Universe: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, or Slytherin. However, your choice currently has no effect on gameplay, and you can switch freely between them at any time.

Is J.K. Rowling involved in the development?

J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the development of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but her work provides the basis for the world and characters. Fan favorites like Hagrid and Harry Potter himself make appearances, and all creatures and characters stay true to the spirit of the original works.

What’s the difference between Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Pokémon Go?

Each game takes place in a unique universe, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has a bigger focus on story. There are also more RPG elements, like the ability to choose professions unlocked at level 6.
